Program Description
With just a few panels in the funny pages, cartoonists of the early 20th century created one of America's most popular and enduring art forms. This presentation will cover the development of the comic strip from its origins in the "yellow journalism" newspaper wars of the 1890s through the introduction of Charles Schulz's Peanuts in the 1950s. Learn about the birth of beloved characters like Dick Tracy, Popeye, Little Nemo, Charlie Brown, and more. Brought to you in partnership with the River Forest Township.
This program is offered in support of our Summer Reading Challenge, the theme of which is "Color Our World."
